JOB SUMMARY

The Quality Technician is responsible for carrying out the quality activities necessary to determine if all items produced (input, gage, part) meet the established quality standards set forth by Solar Plastics to achieve 100% customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Identifies quality criteria and establishes the appropriate testing/auditing procedures to ensure acceptable items are used in production and acceptable product is made and shipped to the customer. Routinely audits quality systems on the production floor and in F/G (docks) to ensure compliance to established requirements. Performs process audits. Performs internal audits when needed.

Performs incoming inspections and takes the necessary corrective actions, if necessary. Performs quality testing on molded parts. Conducts material tests of raw materials where required. Keeps logs of testing and the parts that were tested.

Provides feedback to manufacturing that will improve the quality system, with goals consistent to divisional expectations. Monitors areas with high scrap rates with focus on high scrap dollar/quantity parts and provides feedback and training.

Trains manufacturing employees on quality expectations based on customer requirements. Accurately relates these requirements to the production floor and implements procedures that create a good process flow.

Reviews returns and manages the rework per the RGA process in a timely fashion and includes manufacturing and Engineering in the review of parts and with immediate disposition, determines if there is process issues or parts issue. Provides feedback to customer.

Gathers data to conduct quality studies, to include SPC, gage R&R, capability studies, etc. Manages the fixture inspection process and manages the calibration process compliant to ISO standards. Utilizes statistical techniques where applicable to identify issues that need to be addressed and to ensure that quality manufacturing occurs and is maintained.

Facilitates and supports continuous improvement within the company. Works on increasing the value add per product. Acts as the main lead for ISO documentation for all Solar divisions.

Additional duties, including, but not limited to:
• Develops process procedures, as needed.
• Understands, communicates and enforces internal quality requirements.
• Performs related tasks as directed to aid in the safe, efficient and productive operation.
• Miscellaneous duties, as assigned by the Quality Manager or the Division Manager.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

• Carries out the quality activities necessary to determine if the item (input, part, gauge) in question meets Solar Plastics’ quality standards.
• Documents the results in the appropriate quality record.
• Communicates identified findings to the parties responsible/capable of taking actions in a timely manner and works with them to implement changes.
• Monitors conformance to the established standards.
• Facilitates continuous improvement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Desirable: Two (2) years of post high school education such as an Associates or Bachelors Degree in Quality or related field. ISO 9000 training or experience.
Certifications: ASQC Quality Inspector desirable.
Desired Experience
Minimum of one (1) year of experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment with production and assembly of products. Experience in plastics and/or rotational molding desirable. Experience in customer service. Experience working in a “team” environment, with various departments desirable.

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to record, chart and analyze data. Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and part schematics.
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel), Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer, and other computer based software and or systems. (graphics, statistical programs)
• Knowledge of how to perform the measurement and quality tests applicable to plastics and rotational molded parts. Ability to identify quality criteria for the inputs uses and products manufactured at the facility.
• Knowledge on how to identify equipment requiring calibration, establish calibration criteria and perform the calibration.
• Forklift certification.
• Knowledge of how to review/understand a part print with the ability to interpret GD &T.

Mental Effort

Physical Requirements
• This position requires an individual to see and hear 8+ hours per day. Incumbent is required to have visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing parts, products, a computer terminal, analyzing data, etc.
• Requires the ability to sit, stand and walk up to 8+ hours per day. Requires the ability to work at a rapid speed, twist, bend, push, pull, carry, stoop, reach and grasp 8+ hours per day for activities such as checking products, taking measurements, etc. Requires continuous finger movement and keyboard usage for data entry, carrying and using measurement tools & parts, products, etc.
• Ability to lift 40+ pounds on a regular basis. Ability to be safely mobile on the manufacturing floor for up to 90% of the workday.

Working Conditions
• Exposed to seasonal heat, cold and potential internal temperature changes up to 5+ hours per day. Exposed to dust, dirt, fumes/vapors/gases from plastics processes, ovens and propane tanks.
• This position exists in a production and shop environment, with occasional need to enter the office.
• This position works independently 8+ hours per day and occasionally works directly with others. Ability to work additional hours, as needed to accommodate issues that may arise in the 24-hour operation. Regular attendance necessary.

Personal Protection Equipment
• Eye safety glasses and hearing protection necessary to enter production area.

Travel Requirements
• Valid Drivers License
• Ability to travel to customers when needed
